These things are not something I could say about Volumio (we all know the issues when Tidal Connect was introduced, we all know the issues when the Version 3 was introduced…), as much as I love my Volumio/RPi combination. The app: slide the volume control up or down. Speaker touch controls: when you’re near a speaker, adjust the volume or stop the music using the touch controls on the speaker. What makes a huge difference is actually the app - WiiM Home app is stable, fast, has no glitches, updates with new features are frequent and I have never had a situation where an update had made new issues in the app. Control the volume on your Sonos system several different wayswhatever works best in the moment. I then press volume down on my iPad once, and suddenly my Sonos is blasting at full volume and does not respond to volume control Inputs until 5. The additional perks you have listed for Volumio also do exist in the WiiM Home app, so I don’t really see any advantage there. If I choose the Sonos from within Tidal, so using Tidal Connect instead of AirPlay, volume control does not work with my volume buttons, so I go to the now playing screen and change the volume there. But, using the optical out from WiiM Mini with an outboard DAC gives me a decent sound quality, not too far off when compared to my RPi4 through the same DAC. It IS limited in outputs, its DAC is not worth mentioning, so the sound quality on the AUX out is really not that good at all. I am a Volumio Premium user, so I do have the Tidal Connect service active on my RPi4, which was one of the main reasons to go the Volumio way.Īlso, I own a WiiM Mini and I must say I am very pleased with the way it works. My take from this is the question of value we get for our money with Volumio. This can become an interesting conversation I understand that you are unable to play TIDAL to Sonos from the Tidal application. Turbo, if there is some more difference that you want to point out, besides the price, let me know. There are other differentiations which IMHO puts Volumio on a different level than the Wiim, even though I think they did a very good job and there is something that we should take inspiration from. With Volumio you get plugins, to extend functionality in a way that is unparalleled in the industry. With Volumio you get much more than TIDAL Connect, like multiroom sync, Metadatas, QOBUZ, play to SONOS, Chromecast and much more.Getting more quality out of your music (which is the reason you use TIDAL Connect in the first place) With Volumio you can output to USB, add and audio Hat depending on your taste etc. Output options on the Wiim are very limited (optical and aux out) and I’ve heard nobody praise audio quality.Well, thing is, I don’t think that’s the same result: So why should anyone pay more to get the same result (streaming with TIDAL Connect) ? Volumio’s is at first sight more expensive (with Premium) than Wiim Mini. ![]() Click it and you'll get your list of available speakers pop up.I see turbo’s point. When you play the song on a computer, the device selector option will appear on the bottom right. This process will be the exact same on Android and Apple devices including both smartphones and tablets.įor computers, the process is almost exactly the same, with one difference. You can then change songs in the Tidal app and it will continue to play through the speaker until you disconnect. The song will now be playing through the speaker. On your router, make sure that you do not have band separation enabled. My phone is on 5GHZ and the five on 2.4GHZ. I deleted the speaker from my system, reattached to wired network, then ran the setup wizard for wireless connection and selected 2.4ghz instead of 5ghz. ![]() Simply choose the one you're looking for and voila! Yes moving the five to 2.4ghz seemed to have worked. Once you've clicked this, it will come up with all of the available speakers and devices that you can connect to via Tidal Connect.ģ. This will look like a little speaker with a few sound waves coming off it. Once you've started playing it, click the device selector up in the top corner. You first need to select a song, album or podcast you want to listen to.Ģ. Tidal Connect is easy to use and can be sorted in a few easy steps:ġ. (Image credit: Tidal) How to use Tidal Connect
